Couples at the End of the Pavement
1978 - 2009
By Janice Boling

Couples made up a big part of the crowd at the End of the Pavement.

There were a lot of different couples at the End of the Pavement through the years. Love came and went. Some couples lasted a month, some for years, and some for a life time.

Gwen and Gomer at the End of the Pavement

Gwen and Gomer were around a long time.

Gwen probably has more stories about the End of the Pavement than I could ever imagine.

She actually lived there! Yes, she pulled in a trailer, set it up, and moved in. The men didn't know what to think -- suddenly they had a fiery red-head to keep them in line. Lynyrd Skynyrd turned up to full volume at 2 o'clock in the morning. Not anymore! Cussing in front of little kids? She put a stop to that bad habit. Drugs? Get prepared for a battle!

Marie and Eddie Rich

Marie and Eddie were regulars.

Marie and Eddie loved to play horseshoes. They looked good in black on this day at the End of the Pavement.

Rick and Jill Goode

Rick and Jill hardly ever missed a Sunday.

Rick and Jill were one of my favorite couples. Jill did not usually wear her hair short but it looked nice no matter the length.

Jerry and Miss Hockey

Jerry and Miss Hockey came by whenever they could.

Jerry's dad owned the End of the Pavement at one time so he is an original for sure. Jerry did not find Miss Hockey for a while but when he did, it was a match made in heaven. They were perfect for one another. We got to watch them fall in love which gave us hope that fairy tales could come true.

Jerry had two boys, John and Matt. Miss Hockey had at least thirty kids -- or did for many years until she retired from teaching. I don't know how Miss Hockey got her nickname, but her real name was Sharon.

Phil and Teresa

Phil and Teresa

Phil and Teresa were always ready to throw a game of shoes.

young couple

Missy and Shawn

Missy and Shawn made a good looking couple. They both have the best smiles. This was at Gary's shop during an indoor tournament.

Darlene and Bryan

Darlene and Bryan

They married young and had two beautiful children. Darlene had on dark glasses so you can't see her pretty eyes! Bryan went on to become a preacher. See a picture of their daughter below.

Eric and April kissing

Eric and April

These two made a great couple puckering up for a kiss like love birds!

I loved April's dangle earrings -- very pretty jewelry on a very attractive woman.

Ab and Liz

Ab and Liz

They made a good couple with really nice smiles.

April and Biilly - a couple at the End of the Pavement

April and Billy

April and Billy were regulars at the End of the Pavement. They had two beautiful girls.

Annette and Ron

Annette and Ron

Annette was Brian's sister. She and Ron were regulars at the End of the Pavement.

Tony wears camo and Ann in blue denim

Tony and Ann at the End of the Pavement

Tony and Ann were two really cool people. Ann would ride up on her Harley and look like an actress right off the set of Easy Rider. Ann was a sweetheart. She always had a hug for me and anyone else that was around.

Tony was quiet. I always looked out for those quiet types but Tony was different. He was always just himself, never pretending to be anyone else.

man and woman playing poker

Harold and Gail

Harry finally settled down with Gail. They looked really good together.

Joanne and Big John

Joanne and Big John

Joanne and Big John were together off and on for years. They looked really good together.

Brent and Trish

Brent and Trish

Brent and Trish were together for a year or so. They looked really nice with big smiles.

See more photos of Trish on her sister's page.

Barney and Retha

Barney and Retha

Barney and Retha had fun at Wolf Creek. Back then we had keg parties. Later on we just bought cases of cans and bottles.

Tony and Laura

Tony and Laura

Tony and Laura were a good-looking couple. They were a lot of fun, too. I think this was in Bill Bowers Cove.

See more pictures of Laura and her girls.

Kia and Rodney

Kia and Rodney made a cute couple.

They were at the End of the Pavement a lot in the later years and we counted them among the regulars.

Rhonda and Brian

Rhonda and Brian

Rhonda and Brian dated for a while in the 90's. We had lots of fun together.

David and Dee

David and Dee

David and Dee made a nice looking couple. They were both good people.

Ab with girlfriend

Two teenagers

Ab and his girlfriend looked happy on this sunny day.

See more pictures of Ab here.

Wanda and Tim

Tim and Wanda

Wanda and Tim did not party at the End of the Pavement all the time, but sometimes they made it. Looks like they were having a good time.

Mark and Denise

Mark and Denise

Must be another keg party back in the old days, Looks like Mark and Denise were enjoying themselves.

Buck and Dana

Buck and Danna

Buck looked kind of hesitant about having his picture taken. Danna was laughing as always.

Cricket and Donnie in the snow

Cricket and Donnie in the snow

Cricket was the life of every party. She was one of the first women I met when I moved to Union County in 1978.

Cricket had this huge smile that lit up a room. She visited the End of the Pavement occasionally but never hung out there a whole lot.

Susan and Timmy

Susan and Timmy

Susan and Timmy were together for a while. She was a lot of fun -- but they both changed and moved on. Over the course of thirty years, we saw a lot of that at the End of the Pavement.

Tim and Michelle

Tim and Michelle

They were an item in the early years -- you never saw one without the other. This picture was taken at Gary P's house.

Tony and Dawn

Tony and Dawn

Tony and Dawn were regulars at the End of the Pavement -- for a while.

I think Tony's beer coosie said, "I want it all." I wonder if he got it.

Jimmy and lady

Jimmy and woman in red

Jimmy and his lady friend visited the End of the Pavement.

Sonya and John

Sonya and John

This was one of Sonya and John's few visits to the End of the Pavement. They looked happy to be there.
