Boy if a man had a nickel for every single ringer that has been thrown on that one piece of property right there. Boy howdy him and one or two more could probably retire off that pile of nickels. One of my fav places to go was there and up to the cove to throw shoes. GOOD TIMES, GREAT PEOPLE!!!!
Oh Janice just love the stroll down memory lane, coming with Frank, April, & Mitzi. Hanging out as kids, everyone always made sure we were fed, and safe. All thru Coopers hanging with Milford. And so many more memories as I grew up. Being brought in and getting to know Gwen & Gomer, and what strong, loving people they were. And a furry friend named Bucky.
I miss the EOP, the people, the good times -- even being nominated the designated driver before I ever got my car parked -- by Hambone, Ralph, JC and many more. I would do it again if I had the chance.
You ain't gonna die. Your just gonna go to the end of the pavement!
Us girls would load up on Sundays from the eop and tear the mountains up. I was always behind the wheel (my have to be in control issues lol). We'd bring back wood.. rocks .. arrowheads.. anything neat we could find to impress Gomer and Raymond cause we found it first. Our riding days were the cherry on top of the weekend.
Gomer and I were riding the "Green Gate" road on a sunny day after the snow. He stopped the truck and said,"what kind of critter is that?" as he grabbed his gun and started exiting the truck. He was sneaking up on it like a cat. Lol. When he got close enough, he picked it up and started dying laughing. That is a wonderful memory. Do you still have that hat?
(Yes, I still have the fur hat that Gomer found and gave back to me.)
I remember we had been at the EOP and when we got home Caleb had all of these dollar bills in his pocket. I asked, "Where did you get that money?" He said, "I charged the kids a dollar to play with my toys." I told Larry, "Look Caleb is being like you charging a dollar."
Goodmorning Janice. Morning is my favorite time to sit with my coffee and just my alone time. Just wanted you to know from the first time I met you, I liked you oh so much. Mama Micky did too. I was probably 13 when mama and I were outside and her favorite of Ethel's kids Boy Fox as she always called Joe, came walking down from Ethel's to our little red concrete block house on the Old Blue Ridge Hwy. I loved Boy and he was always my favorite also. He used to ride me on his shoulders when I was just a little turd. Mama and Ethel along with Alwayne and Sib went way back before I was ever thought of. Lol , I've heard she was a wild child back in their day. Guess the apple didn't fall far from the tree.
But anyway I was sitting in the swing when Joe brought his treasure to meet Micky. I was just a little country bumpkin in a chunky short body and oh when I first seen you my first thought was, she is so pretty. Those eyes! You had overalls on and a big pretty smile. I for the first time was a little ashamed of my unkept hair mama had to fight me to brush and my same old cloths I had on since the day before. He introduced you and you could see even tho he was tall, his lanky frame seemed even taller with pride.
Bless his heart I had never seen Boy Fox with any girl, much less as pretty as this city gal! He was mighty proud. He saw that I for the first time was being bashful just soaking up the conversation, came over too me on that swing and came up behind me and squatted down and reached around and gave me sugar on my fat little jaw with that beautiful long blond hair falling around on my face. He says, so what do you think of her you little frog gigger? Lol... I replied in his ear quietly , I think she's real purdy! That brought a big ole smile.
I thought the world of Joe. I finally got up enough courage for the quirky little kid I was and asked you, Did you know Boy can play a guitar? Reckon I loved him like a big brother or at least a cousin and was gonna make sure he kept you cause he was so happy. Lmbo. Anyway you inspired me to start looking like a girl and wanting makeup. Mama was glad I started brushing my hair! I'm older now, 54. A lot I can't remember but this always stuck with me.
Love you much and thank you for being good to my mama and watching over me through my wild child days at the EOP. Didn't go there after my daughter was born. But as most girls did, I ended up dating Hambone for a few mths when he had his old trailer. I was 16 and had just left my son's dad as he was mean to me. I remember at Ham's old trailer you took a pic of I can't remember who the others was but we was on the couch. I think I had ate too many green beans and drunk too much PBR that nite. Great memories! Write on sister...
Hey gal. Thank you for bringing back such good memories of better days. Hey do you know the guy who lives in Ethel Fox's house on the hill? His name is Jim and her name is Donna. Anyway this doesn't have anything to do with EOP. But I used to give Donna a ride to drop her off at Jim's and told her I used to play there and visit as a child. Anyways she invited me in.They are really cool folks. He made a beautiful rock bathroom in what was I think was Joe's room. It was awesome to get to see the inside. I could almost see the big fish tank where it used to be. Also he said something kinda wild. He said, so you knew the people who lived here. I said, yes since I was just a baby. He says, you may think I'm crazy to ask this but was one of them a tiny little old lady? I said, it sure was. I said , her name was Ethel Fox. He and Donna looked at each other and he says, well at least we know her name. He said, mainly see her in the kitchen and outside with her hands on her hips looking down towards the hill like she is watching for someone. He sure was describing her. Anyway just thought that was neat. You take care and love you gal. God's Blessings, Susie
